The Age of Aquarius

This primer from the France 24 website, May 25, 2009 entitled “Chavez and Correa Vow to End Press Abuses”:

“With his Venezuelan counterpart’s support, Correa vowed to “clean up” the country from a press he described as a “corrupt instrument of the oligarchy” and the main “enemy of change” in both nations.

‘Ecuador has the full backing of Venezuela in its internal fight against this phenomenon, which borders on fascist madness that is open, blatant (and) cynical,’ said Chavez.

For his part Morales concurred with the sentiment but stopped short of publicly backing the proposal of a UNASUR mechanism, although he also joined in with lambasting his country’s media.

Morales said that he will raise the issue when he soon meets with the Inter American Press Association (IAPA) which defends press freedoms.

The president said he plans to discuss with the IAPA ‘how much of the Bolivia media are corrupt liars.’

On Sunday Morales also proposed that people suspected of acts of secession or treason in Bolivia are tried by military justice ‘because they are traitors of the motherland.’”

It seems someone working on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington has recently been attending “Role of the Media” seminars in Caracas.

We live in the modern age of Aquarius, wrought (read overwrought), by a generation raised to believe its own press and determined to complete FDR’s great socialist experiment. Washington, Franklin, Lincoln, Adams, the Madisons, Douglass, Hamilton, King, Turner, etc. are being replaced by more important heroes, heroes of the revolution. Mao, Guevara, Stalin, and Chavez are the new Saints, modern day demigods whose spirits will provide you free healthcare, clean air, and a chicken in every pot. All their modern preachers ask of you is to suspend disbelief in the ample evidence that the socialist experiments of the last century and early this century appear to have wrought somewhat more poverty and death than the Black Death itself.

After seventy-seven years of solid socialist experimentation in the United States, we apparently retain our dreamy-eyed crush on the Collective. We long for the Collective where the terrible burden of individual decisions is lifted from us. We get free healthcare, free retirement, food in abundance, freedom to gaze at our navels and think good thoughts about our leaders…..

Sorry for the digression. I forgot for a moment that Stalin solved his food problem by starving the Ukraine practically to death. I forgot that Mao ended navel gazing during a Cultural Revolution that killed….how many? I just placed an Ebay bid for a 1958 Chevy, the most recent model year available, from a man in Havana. Delivery is by wooden raft. Our own petty socialism has given us the utterly satisfying Social Security and Medicare Systems. And yes, I know how pleased we all are with those delightful programs. The GAO (GAO-10-137SP) is now projecting a sixty one trillion dollar shortfall over the next eighty years or so, most of that created by the growth in entitlements. The lunch is free for you today, with the bill due to our children, ad infinitum.

We live in The Modern Age of Aquarius where Ernesto Guevara is our American Idol. As a socialist, he is without compare. As a mass murderer he is a bit of a piker compared to Comrades Josef and Zedong. At La Cabana he did use a most impressive rationale for his summary executions. Because the Cuban people were in a lynching mood, it was better to just shoot the accused and save the people the trouble.

Is it me or is it interesting how, in those grand socialist experiments, so few of the masses are remembered while their demigods grow in stature. In order for Stalin and Mao to pay for their collectivization, they had to thin the herd by millions of people. Today we are being asked to finish the collectivization of healthcare, banking, and manufacturing in the U.S. To what end will it lead? It appears there is ample recent evidence to draw a conclusion. Kudos to the press for helping us to understand those cautionary tales and the real potential for the impoverishment of our people embedded in our current direction. I suppose their lack of critical thinking is understandable. After all, who wants to be a traitor to the motherland? Or miss one of those dinners at the National Press Club?

Yours

Lazy Jack

P.S. I think all this rhetoric calls for a song.

The Age of Dependency (To the tune of that great song from the 5th Dimension)

When Rahm is in the Lincoln Bedroom
And Harry Reid aligns with Mars
Then Barak will guide the masses
And Dodd will steal the stars

This is the dawning of the age of dependency,
The age of dependency,
Dependency, dependency.

Taxation and confiscation
Stimulus and hope abounding
No more freedom and dissention
Golden free healthcare delusions
Mystic Nobel ordination
And your income redistribution
Dependency, dependency

When Rahm is in the Lincoln Bedroom,
And Pelosi aligns with Mars,
Then Barak will guide the masses
And Rangel will steal the stars.

This is the dawning of the age of dependency,
The age of dependency,
Dependency, dependency.

Pay more taxes….., pay more taxes now
More taxes….now
Give your savings……give your savings now
Your savings…..now
They deserve it…….they deserve it more
Yes more…..than you

Pay more taxes….., pay more taxes now
More taxes….now
Give your savings……give your savings now
Your savings…..now
They deserve it…….they deserve it more
Yes more…..than you

Pay more taxes….., pay more taxes now
More taxes….now
Give your savings……give your savings now
Your savings…..now
They deserve it…….they deserve it more
Yes more…..than you
